Movies Before the Mast

Every Friday and Saturday night for 8 weeks
we toted dozens of airpots of coffee
and dozens of goodies aboard the Star of India.
Boy, what a hike, that gang plank is a tough incline!

July/August 2003

Here is the ship...really beautiful..."The Star of India is the world's oldest active ship. She began her life on the stocks at Ramsey Shipyard in the Isle of Man in 1863." Now she hosts movies for families...what else are you gonna do when you retire? The masts are crazy high and the crew members still shimmy up there for maintenance work! Here is the movie screen mounted on the masts. It is really cool, you can see the movie from either side! Tonight's film...JAWS! Don't look over the sides (gulp!)

Take your pick, full bar, popcorn, or the best darn coffee in San Diego! Jen diggin change out of her pocket. We didn't invest in a cash register until we realized these evenings were profitable. What a great way to spend the evening, selling coffee, meeting people who like to see movies on ships (bizarre sub-species) and watching the sunset over the bay!

This year we decided that we will staff the event with some employees so we can have a life once more. We had a great time, but it was a TON of work!
